Six times Women’s Federation Cup champions, Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt are set redeem their image as this year’s oldest cup competition takes center stage.
The reigning Nigeria Women Premier League champions who had won the women’s Federation cup title back to back for six good seasons were halted last season in the quarter finals by Confluence Queens, losing 2-1 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium in Enugu.
The Edwin Okon tutored side who were denied an opportunity to notch a double last season is however poised on making sure they get back the lost glory.
The Port Harcourt side are still basking in the euphoria of a good season start over the weekend where they pounced Martins White Doves to record an emphatic 4-1 victory at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, Benin.
Edwin Okon is optimistic ahead of the game
“My message for the fans is for them to keep praying for the team as they usually do, for six seasons it’s been back to back in this country” he said.
“Is just last year that we lost the cup, as long as I know football is played outside the field and I know we will not disappoint them this time around” said the gaffer.
Rivers Angels captain, Charity John believes their 4-1 victory over Martins White Doves will be a threat to their opponent tomorrow
“It’s not about being confident, I think the confidence is already there in us and with the 4-1 victory, our opponents will be scared of us” said Charity.
