NPFL: Austin Charges Rivers to Keep Fighting

Rivers United captain, Festus Austin insists that the club “has achieved nothing yet this season” despite their stunning 3-1 victory over Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) leaders, Enugu Rangers last Sunday.

United overcame the setback of missing five first teamers to comprehensively beat the Flying Antelopes at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt.

Austin acknowledges that the win was important but also stressed on the importance of his team mates to keep their feet firmly on the ground ahead of Sunday’s NPFL clash with Warri Wolves.

“Winning that game against a strong side like Rangers was important but that is now in the past.

“We have not achieved anything yet this season.

“We go to Warri with humility but without fear of our opponents as we try to get a positive result,” he told Rivers United Media.

One of the five United first team players who missed the win over Rangers, Chinonso Okokwo has travelled with the squad to Warri.

Okonkwo who United’s top scorer this season believes the club can win in Warri on Sunday.

“The game against Wolves is just like any other game and we will approach it with our normal levels or seriousness.

“We have to work hard to come out with a good result and I believe we can do it,” he said.

The former Enyimba attacker rounded off by discussing his sadness at missing the game against Rangers (he sat out due to suspension having accumulated five yellow cards this season).

“I was very sad to have missed the game against Rangers but I was very happy that the coaches did well with the players who were available.

“We have now proven that this club does not rely on any single individual,” he said.
Okonkwo has scored more goals away from home (three) than any player in the NPFL this season.
