AFCON 2017: Ayew tips Ghana as title favorites

Ghana forward Andre Ayew gave his thoughts regarding The Black Stars’ chances in the upcoming African Cup of Nations, starting January 15th.

Ghana sit in the same group as Egypt in Group D, alongside Uganda and Mali.
Despite Ghana having not won the tournament in 34 years, Ayew stated that “we are in a difficult group and to be honest we are among the two favourites in the tournament”.

The West Ham midfielder added that this will be “one of the toughest” tournaments ever: “I think every tournament becomes harder and harder.”

“We can see that all the teams are becoming stronger, so we need to keep our heads high and be confident and go and do our job.”

Ayew did not expand into who he believes the other favourite to be. However, considering Egypt sits atop Group A in World Cup Qualifying – five points clear of the Black Stars – it may be safe to believe that Ghana are wary of Egypt’s chances in the upcoming AFCON 2017.

Ghana and Egypt face off on 25th January, vying for a spot in the quarter-finals.
