#KogiGovRace: INEC Releases Time Table for Pre-election Activities

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on wednesday released a time table and schedule of activities for the conduct of the governorship election slated for November 21 in Kogi State.

Briefing Journalists at the INEC office in Lokoja, the Kogi State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Haliru Pai disclosed that the pre-election activities like the Continuous Voters Registration and distribution of permanent voters cards would commence concurrently as from 2nd to 7th september, while political parties were to conduct their primary elections between August 21st and September 19th.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) stated further that Voter education for all categories of the electorate would begin from September 28th and end October 31st.

According to Alhaji Pai, for maximum output, the Commission had commenced training of personnel that would conduct the Continuous Voters Registration.

He said the Continuous Voters Registration would be conducted at the 21 local government offices of the commission with 10 Direct Data Capturing machines, each to be manned by two personnel.
The Commissioner explained that the Commission had provided additional 34 centres in some local government areas to cater for areas with difficult terrains and those that were far away from the registration centres.
He emphasised that the distribution of permanent voters’ cards was for persons who were unable to collect theirs before the last general election and those that transfered their registration to or within the state.

As for the continuous voters registration, Alhaji Pai said only those who had not registered before and those that turned 18 years of age after the last registration exercise as well as those whose names were not found in the voters register would be attended to.

The Commissioner, therefore, assured the electorate in the state that the forth coming governorship election would be used to improve on the past processes, adding that the commission was poised to conduct free, fair, credible, transparent and acceptable election.
