"Emulate 1991 All African Games Freestyle Wrestlers", Igali Charges Athletes

President Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Dr Daniel Igali has charged wrestlers representing Nigeria at the All Africa Games (AAG) to mimick 1991 freestyle wrestlers.

Addressing the 21 wrestlers in camp, Igali said the wrestler needed to replicate what the 10 freestyle athletes did at the 5th All-Africa Games held from September 20 to October 1, 1991 in Cairo, Egypt.

Our expectation is that every athlete brings back a medal’ he said.
“Maybe some of you were not born then, but you need to mimick what happened in 1991, where we went with 10 freestyle wrestlers to the All Africa Games and came back with 10 gold medals” Igali stated.

“I don’t want to put any pressure on you but I have very little expectation and that is everyone going will put in their 100% effort and I have every confidence in you and I will continue to count on you to make our association great” Igali ended.

At the All Africa games in Egypt, Nigeria can second by winning 43 gold, 51 silver and 52 bronze coming behind Egypt.

The 11th African Games is scheduled for September 4–19, 2015 in Brazzaville, Congo.
It will be recalled that The Director General, National Sports Commission (NSC), Al-Hassan Yakmut said the country’s contingent to the All Africa Games would depart for Brazzaville on August 31.

Also, the Federal government released N2.9 billion for the preparation of All African Games/Olympics.
