A gang of robbers yesterday attacked a commercial bank at Okene, Kogi State and killed two policemen in an attempt to break into the banking hall.
Daily Trust on Saturday gathered that the gunmen numbering four arrived at the bank’s premises along the Okene Council Secretariat at about 8.55 am and shot sporadically into the air.
It was gathered that attempt to gain entrance to the banking hall proved difficult as security operatives engaged the suspected robbers in a gun battle which led to the death of two policemen on duty.
Our correspondent learnt that residents of the area scampered for safety while the shootings lasted.
When contacted, Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sola Collins Adebayo confirmed the incident.
Adebayo said the police will commence investigation into the incident with immediate effect.
