Gold Cup; Enyimba, Remo Stars Game Abandoned


...... Points awarded to Remo Stars

Enyimba International FC game against Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL) newcomers Remo Stars FC was abandoned after the People’s Elephant walked off the pitch.


Scoreline was 2-2 when Enyimba technical bench instructed the players to go off pitch in protest of a 70th penalty awarded against them.

Assara Emmanuel put the People's Elephant ahead in the 5th minute after capitalizing on defensive blunder which rendered Remo Stars safehand Chizoba Ndukwe helpless.

Remo Stars wing back, Abiodun Rasheed drew level for the Sky Blue side in the 44th minute to end the first half 1-1. 
 

Opeyemi Olufemi, nods in Abiodun Rasheed right side corner in the 49th minutes before substitute Stephen Chukwude equalized for Enyimba in the 62nd minute.

Penalty was awarded to Remo Stars in the 70th minute after an indecent tackling on Abiodun Rasheed at goal bound which was contested by Enyimba players.

Referee Saheed Babayanju from Ondo State was left with no choice but to call a halt to proceedings after the former league champions failed to return to the pitch.

However, the Disciplinary Committee of the tournament sat few minutes after the match and awarded the match to Remo Stars.

Tunde Shamsudeen the General Coordinator of the tourney while speaking with Gold Cup Media stated that the rules makes it an offence for a club to refuse continuation of play during a match.
