Kano State Set to Revive Sports Festival



Kano state government is to re introduce its state Sports festival among the forty four local government areas in the state which was suspended for some years.

This was disclosed by the kano state sports commission Chairman Alh. Ibrahim Galadima while receiving Executives of 44 local governments Sports Officers Forum in his office.

Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima said by next year the festival would hold at three Senatorial Zones in the state and the final matches would be played in the state Capital.
         
The chairman expressed dismay  on how sports sector was always been neglected at the local governments  level despite its significance  in promoting unity and creating job opportunities among the youths.
        
Alhaji Galadima said the commission is planning to organize inter local government competition in four sporting events in the first quarter of the next year at the local governments areas in the state with aim of scouting talents among the youths that the state have in the grassroots  that can represented the state in National sports festival and other national and international sporting activities.

Turning to the local government sports officers forum, the chairman charged them to wake up in discharging their  primary assignments by strengthening their efforts in organizing mini competitions in their domains.

He also said very soon members of his commission would embark on 44 local government tour in the state in order to meet with local government councils chairmen and other sports stakeholders for the way forward for grassroot  sports development in kano state.
      
Alhaji Galadima pointed out that by next year there is plans by the state government to construct three modern stadia outside kano metropolis in order to reduce over utilization of stadia in the state capital and give opportunity to youths in the rural areas to show case their talents in sports.
      
Earlier, the chairman of the forum, Alhaji Abdulhamid Ado Maidoki said they were in his office to congratulate him for his appointment and intimate him of their challenges in discharging their duties which includes lack of  training and non availability  of sporting facilities in their areas.
        
Alhaji Abdulhamid Ado Maidoki  then urged the commission to revive the inter local government competitions like emir of kano, Late Aminu kano and Governor's cups which have been abandoned by the previous  administrations in the state.
